Planning your perfect day at mt. rainier national park

Immerse yourself in nature

Mount Rainier National Park is the crowning jewel of the Pacific Northwest. Towering peaks, lush forest, and a wide range of activities make this an adventure unlike any other. It doesn’t matter if you are a hiker, photographer, or just looking for a good time, a day out at this park will be an unforgettable experience. Today we will dive in further to what a perfect day at Mount Rainier National Park looks like.

Sunrise at the park

Arriving early is a must when visiting the area, in large part due to the incredible sunrises. Mount Rainier National Park sunrises provide magical views as the sun glistens over the ridge of the mountain top. Especially in the warmer months when the wildflowers are blooming, it creates such a peaceful atmosphere that you can’t afford not to arrive early.

An additional benefit to arriving early is avoiding large crowds, adding to the overall bliss of the experience. They will help you secure access to the trailheads before the majority arrive.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE

Separated into different areas, Mount Rainier offers a variety of hiking opportunities in each designated spot. Regardless of fitness level, there are day hikes for every kind of hiker. Ranging from short, easy walks to strenuous, backcountry routes, here are a few recommendations for your hiking pleasure.

  • Skyline Trail: One of the most iconic trails, located in the Paradise Area, Skyline Trail offers stunning views. Glaciers, waterfalls and wildflowers are but a few of the local sights that you will see on this 5.5 mile loop. However, if you would like a shorter hike, try the Skyline Trail to Myrtle Falls, a shortened 1-mile version of the Skyline Trail.
  • Trail of the Shadows: The Longmire Area provides the Trail of the Shadows, a quick twenty minute journey through open forest and meadows. An old 1800s log cabin graces the presence of your party as you venture through the path. Additionally, an old historic masonry wall can be walked through and admired as you complete your journey.
  • Chenuis Falls Trail: Heading towards the Carbon River Trail, this 7.4-mile hike showcases immaculate views of the Chenuis Falls. Hikers can use footbridges to cross streams, which is one of the best ways to seek out your thrills. Be on the lookout for rock cairns that mark the trail, safely guiding you to your end destination.

PHOTO OPS

During your hikes, don’t forget to bring a camera! Mount Rainier provides a photographer’s paradise at your fingertips. Breathtaking views of wildflowers, crystal-clear lakes and high peaks are sure to delight all parties. But, the best pictures could be the ones that are planned ahead. How might you accomplish this? The Mount Rainier National Park webcam showcases what each section of the park looks like on a given day, allowing you to take in the views from the comforts of your own home. That’s not all, as you can take in the views and plan where you want to take your pictures, allowing for an easier transition.
